This installment of What’s In The Bag features our very own Guest Beauty, Stephanee…ENJOY!

My bag is like an extension of my self. I prefer to have larger bags because I carry around a lot of items and I like to have extra room to carry around water bottles and such.

Soooo, I’ll just get to it… What’s in The Bag: The Stephanee Edition…”

Check out the 5 things that I learned the hard way after having my little one. Now, that I am expecting again, things are going much more smoothly, thank goodness.

But, seriously, why doesn’t anyone warn you about this stuff?!

Lipsticks are a huge deal to me.

Currently, I have 16 lippies in the makeup bag I carry in my purse (hey, you never know!) As much of a lipstick connoisseur I think I am, I’ve had a hard time finding the right shade and texture for me.

It seems like searching for lip color is like the story of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.” I’ve tried expensive and inexpensive brands, but I could never find that lippie that was just right…

Howdy Beauties,

We’ve got a new addition to the Beauty 365 team by the name of Marina!

Not only is she a talented writer, she’s mother to precious little Beauty Pie Rebecca and she’s currently expecting.

Marina will be working on the newly minted “Mommy Beauty” series, a fun look at mommy and baby wellness, pregnancy, baby care products and the life of a modern mom.

Please join us in giving her a warm welcome!

I don’t know about you Beauties, but I have a major problem with my makeup doing a disappearing act by midday. What’s the point of spending your time and using your makeup skills if they will be wasted due to daily activities, oily skin, or even worse, the weather? Humidity anyone? As if?!

The first time I used Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner ($11), I was in the process of growing out my relaxer. Boy, it was a process alright! My hair is super thick and the transition ended up being too time consuming and costly for me personally. I’m a low maintenance girl and growing out my relaxer was a lot of work, therefore I ended up going back to relaxers. Just so you have a visual, here’s a pic of my hair curly and straight…

This review is two fold simply because I used Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner before (when I was growing out my relaxer) and after (when I started getting relaxers again). While I was going natural it was such a daunting task trying to choose products that worked well with my hair and helped with the manageability of transitioning from permed to natural. Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner was one of the products I tried but did not seem to get the results I expected.

As someone with a scientific background, Beauty 365 often asks my opinion on many scientific claims from various beauty products. Naturally, I was excited when I was asked to review the book Can You Get Hooked on Lip Balm? ($17) authored by creators of the cosmetic science website, TheBeautyBrains.

This book gives a scientific perspective of the many beauty products we use everyday. It is split into four parts: Hair, Skin, Makeup, and the Beauty Industry and answers questions like:

Can you really rebuild your hair?

Does snake venom work as well as Botox?

What’s wrong with sulfates?

As well as the title question, Can you get hooked on lip balm?

The Beauty Brains use terms and analogies that anyone should be able to understand. They did a good job at not complicating the text with difficult scientific terminology. I would recommend this book as a cosmetic science reference text or for those who are interested in the science of beauty.

If you have had a chance to read this book, let me know in the comments.

Stay Beautiful

With all the beauty products to choose from it’s easy to lose sight of the basics.

One product I use more than anything else and cannot live without is none other than…Chapstick!

When I was younger I used to wear makeup for my ballet recitals (definitely where my passion for beauty came from!) but nothing stands out more in my childhood makeup memories than my tiny wand of cherry Chapstick. I loved it so much I think I even used to eat it…

I was first introduced to Neutrogena’s Triple Moisture line last year and have been in love ever since!

Ugochi invited me to a fundraiser and as “thank you” for our donations we each received gift bags. One of my favorite products ended up being the Daily Deep Conditioner by Neutrogena. I loved it so much I purchased the Deep Recovery Hair Mask.

First off, let me start by saying that this product line should be called Triple Threat Moisture! Olive, meadowfoam seed and sweet almond are three key ingredients that help infuse hair with moisture…

What goes around comes around, when it comes to make up trends that is.

I might be a little late to join the blue mascara band wagon the second time around, but better late than never, right?! Since summer is finally here, it’s the perfect time to experiment with fun colors. However, the old blue hue I had in my makeup stash just wasn’t working out so we had to part ways.

Sooo…I ditched that zero and moved on to a pretty little number by Kat Von D’s make up collection – the High Frequency Mascara in the Techno shade of blue.

My first time with this mascara was love at first swipe! Not only is the color electric and vibrant, but the wand separates and lifts. This color looks gorgeous and my lashes literally look like they are on cloud nine. :)

Techno, you might end up being more than just a summer fling…
