Hello Beauties!
Just a quick post to say hello (or shall I say “How far?” ) from Nigeria.
I’m on holiday (finally!) and have been hanging out with the family and following the Occupy Nigeria Movement (national strike and fuel subsidy removal protests).
Of course, I’ve been working on getting the beauty scoop for you guys as well — Naija Beauty post to come!
And, as you remember Weaves are Big Business in Nigeria…

I confess…
As much as I heart cosmetics, I’ve always been kind of afraid of wearing a bold red lip!
I LOVE jazzing up my eye makeup with every color, mascara and eyeliner under the sun, but a bold lip…GULP. And, obvs I’d never do a bold eye and lip together, but just the idea of a bold lip always felt like too much for me. But, as you may have noticed to your right , I have gotten over that little snafu quite nicely.
I recently popped into a MAC store and asked to try the two classic red shades Ruby Woo and Russian Red that I’d heard oh-so-much about. I walked out with Ruby Woo (Russian Red was a bit too orange-y on me) and a lip pencil in Beet received compliments all the staff and on the walk home!
Ruby Woo is a super duper matte blue-based red lipstick. The color is amazing, but it does get to feeling dry especially after a bit of time passes. I’d love to try a juicier, creamier red next.
My Red Inspirations:
I’d recently seen this picture of Claire from The Fashion Bomb and *loved* the bold lip. Felicia of This That Beauty also wears a red lip oh-so-well. And…the super fab Erin @ Scandalous Beauty (whose videos I adore, btw) posted a vid on 6 lovely red lippies to try out.
Check it out below, there’s a red in this here vid for every one of you Beauties!

How did your entry into the world of the red lip go? What’s your fav red lip color?

Ugochi

Happy Monday Beauties!
If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that this past Friday was my birthday! So, in honor of another glorious year, I decided to try out a fab new nail design. I love, Love, LOVE getting my nails done professionally, but as a recent graduate (LOL!), I’ve been trying my hand at frugality and taking on more DIY beauty projects.
So, here are the results!
I’ve gotten pretty good at doing my own nails these past few weeks, don’t ya think?!
Anyhoo, I did a Half-Moon Manicure and it was surprisingly easy! I got the idea from this video:
[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2cBfViPIm0]
My nails are short, so I wanted a fun and bold color combo. I dug into my polish stash and used these:
Base Coat: First Base Base Coat – Essie ($7)
Half Moon: Xtreme Wear Nail Color in Going Green by Sally Hansen ($3)
Main Color: Nail Lacquer in Blue My Mind by OPI ($7)
Quick Dry Top Coat: Miracote by Duri ($7)
Hole Reinforcement stickers I’ve had since college ($1)
I’ve been getting compliments left and right, so I will definitely try this again in the near future. Let me know if you guys try it out!
xo,
Ugochi

Disclaimer: I bought all these products myself!

Happy Monday, Beauty Pies!
Whilst attempting to troubleshoot my WordPress blog template this weekend and oscillating between anger and despair, I did not follow my own advice – ahem – discovered this fantastic video on YouTube!
[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBejDUFOBxw]
This clip is by the Curly Girl Collective and it’s a video montage of the Collective Expressions Launch Event that was held not too long ago in NYC. Here’s the official blurb from CGC:
“The official video recap from Collective Expressions – A Celebration of Textured Beauty, held at Brian Farrell’s Art Studio at Chelsea Modern in NYC. The event was sponsored by hair care icon Miss Jessie’s, in partnership with HEART & SOUL MAGAZINE and Hypnotiq Harmonie, with 100% of the event proceeds going to our charity partner, Petals-N-Belles.“
This looks to have been a very chic (and fun!) event celebrating the beauty of our hair in it’s natural state. Did any of you Beauties get a chance to attend? If so, let us know in the comments!
Stay Beautiful

Dear Beauty 365,
Once and for all, should I or shouldn’t I pop my zits?!
Ready To Pop
New Brunswick, NJ
Dear Ready To Pop,
Funny you ask that.
I’ve got a couple “situations” going on near my left cheek and I was recently wondering the same thing! I confess to having popped more than one zit in my day, but I do my best to avoid it. The single solution that has worked best for me has 3 important steps:
1. Keep hands off offending zit.
2. Dab toner containing salicylic acid on offending zit after washing face.
3. Keep hands OFF offending zit (really – this part is important!)
Simple, right? But, this method can take a while. And, sometimes, it can be hard to follow steps 1 and 3 after waiting a several long days while the offending zit dies its slow death. Can you believe that some people even get a teeny bit of satisfaction from popping a zit?! Uh, yeah, me neither…
Moving right along.
I thought it prudent to seek medical advice regarding this urgent skin care situation. So, I pulled out my trusty copy of the venerable Dr. Oz’s book and read up on how to lance a pimple.
