Frugal Beauty: Castile Soap

Hi Beauties!

Today’s installment of the Frugal Beauty series features Castile Soap. Now, I’ll admit, I always thought that this was some kind of weird hippie “soap” that really didn’t clean all that well…

When I was younger my mom used to call me Rapunzel because my hair was so long and luxurious.

Since then my hair has been through so many changes (bleaching, dyeing, frying, breakage, relaxers – you name it!) that my hair is more like Alfalfa‘s than Rapulzel’s. Right now, I’m growing out my relaxer so I can have the flexibility to wear my hair naturally curly or sexy straight.

Now when it comes to certain items I refuse to spend big bucks, but when it comes to my hair I have to splurge. Naturally, I was drawn to the most expensive flat iron and after reading the positive reviews I called the 800 number and placed my order for the Sedu Ionic Ceramic Pro Flat Iron ($129.00)…

Howdy Beauties,

I’m back!

And, I have a major hair crush.

Check out MsTanish1’s lovely mane in this video clip, which incidentally has nothing to do with hair. :) I soooo admire the full, fluffy volume she’s got going on and I totally heart the side puff style she’s got it in.

You can check out her YouTube page here and peruse her informative library of hair tutorial vids.

As for me, I’ve got tons of life updates and, of course, fun stuff planned for the blog. So, be sure to stay tuned…

Hi Beauties!

I’m back :)

This little blog has a birthday later this month, so I figured what better time to get back to giving you the scoop in beauty and wellness. I’ve got tons to share about my summer travels to South Africa, my adventures in skin and hair supplements and lots of fabness from our latest Guest Beauty, Stephanee.

But, this video (via CNN.com) is a quick peek in the weave/wig/weave-on/you-name-it industry in Nigeria. You can get just about anything done to your hair for super cheap. It always amazes me every time I go to see how unpopular natural hair is…Ah well.

LOL @ the “weave count” in the middle of the market at 0:59.

Enjoy and let me know your thoughts!

What a great vid!

Trolling around on YouTube has unearthed some hair inspiration courtesy of GiaMoOnX.

I was fiddling around with my hair today and might give this look a try in the AM since I am in between appointments. So cute and so quick!

The clip is in high speed, too — sweet!

Check it out!

You all know how much I heart Ouidad.

Really and truly, she makes THE BEST deep conditioner EVER. I love it so much, I wrote a review about it and the good folks at Ouidad.com even featured it on their site –go me! Although, the name of the conditioner has since changed a bit, everything else has pretty much remained the same.

Obviously, I was really excited to try this Curl Pioneer’s latest innovation, the Double Detangler, ($24) along with my beloved Deep Treatment. This tool is essentially a weighted, two-pronged comb designed to replicate the “Rake and Shake” styling technique used in Ouidad salons. The first comb is meant to begin detangling, while the second is meant to finish and prep hair to be washed, conditioned, cut or styled…

Hi dolls!

In an effort to up my exploration of this big bad city, one of my summer goals is to check out what the non-Manhattan boroughs have to offer.

It’s slow going, but…I did end up in Brooklyn this weekend with my favorite Ethiopian for delightfully fun and random summer night. We started with an outdoor concert in Fort Greene Park, which I was late for since I was busy running around my apartment cheering for Ghana in their World Cup match  vs. USA (Go Black Stars and their super-fine Midfielder KP Boateng!)

Anyhoo, Common performed at the concert (such a cutie and so talented!) then we headed to 67 Burger (double yum!), Habana Outpost and a random house party.

I won’t mention when we finally got home ;) , but as expected, there were lots of jokes, a few cuties and plenty of interesting characters along the way :) . But, one thing I noticed throughout this adventure were all the lovely natural hairstyles parading around in the park and all through the night. There were so many beautiful sets of locs, I was really considering maybe sort of giving them a shot…

:-D

We’ll see how that goes, but for now check out this video from YouTube darling, Fauryn78, on her loc journey, in pictures.

Tres inspirational and informative! Here goes…

Hmm…

I’ve been in a “hair mood” these days, so I’ve taken a particular interest in checking out the hair videos on YT. This segment from an episode of The View came up in my search results and I must confess that it made me kinda sad. So many struggles and labels and stigmas are attached to this stuff that grows out of our heads.

Why can’t hair just be hair?

Anyhoo, let me know what you guys think about the clip!
