Disclaimer: I am not a hair scientist, cosmetologist, or anything of that sort. However, I do have an extensive science background and I have reviewed a vast amount of literature. With this information, I will explain this topic as clearly as possible.

There’s plenty of talk about hair porosity on the Internet and hair forums but there aren’t always clear explanations of the science. This series is aimed to give you a simple and clear explanation of the science of hair.

Porosity is defined as “the ability to absorb fluids[1]. It is typically described in relative terms. . .

In January 2011, I got box braids and I was really excited because I hadn’t had them in a long while. I wanted a break from maintaing my relaxed hair. The previous time I had braids was in early 2008 and my hair did pretty well after taking them out.

That was not the case this time. My hairline was WRECKED and my relaxed hair was really thin and breaking. . .

Howdy Beauties!

Wanna see what came of this lovely set of ingredients. Keep on reading to find out. . .

Those of you that frequent Beauty365 know that hair is a huge part of our lives and we dedicate much time to the cause.

Annnnnnd, guess what?? I’m in the process of transitioning my hair AGAIN – for the third time. Hopefully this time I will stick to it and grow my hair out to a comfortable length before I chop off the relaxed part. That will take some time however so now my main concern is keeping my hair healthy and breakage to a minimum. . .

Hi friends!

I’ve been on quite the natural/homemade hair products kick these days.

I especially love the shea butter and essential oil hair and scalp cremes I got creative and made one day not too long ago while procrastinating. :) My hair drinks it up and I don’t get any flaky build-up.

#win

I’ll do a post on them in the near future. . . but one thing I’ve been wondering about is a natural/homemade gel. I love my shea mix but it doesn’t give much hold.

As with any random beauty query, I naturally headed to YouTube to conduct further research. I found this video by Naptural85 on how to make a gel at home out of <gulp> flaxseeds. . .

One of my favorite beauty products I discovered while living in Nigeria is black soap.

My personal favorite brand is Dudu Osun by Tropical Naturals. The ingredients for this soap are honey, shea butter, camwood, palm kernel oil, cocoa pod ash, palm bunch ash, aloe vera, lime juice, water and fragrance. . .

Hello B365 readers!

Recently, Stephanee and I were lucky enough to represent Beauty 365 at the launch of Carol’s Daughter’s new Chocolät Smoothing Collection

The collection is designed to physically rebuild hair structure by softening and smoothing each strand. The collection consists of three steps: Chocolät Smoothing Shampoo, Conditioner, and Blow Dry Cream. The products contain Keravis, which is a plant-protein that physically rebuilds hair by filling in lifted cuticles.

I just want to let you know that I HATE blow-drying my hair at home. My arms get so tired and my hair does not get the texture that I like…

Dear MsTanish1,

Your hair is still so amazing. Thank you kindly for posting your weekly hair routine!

So many great (and affordable!) ideas.

However, I realize that I am much less motivated than you are and would be lucky if I did your *full* routine once every 6 weeks (doh!) The concoction that you mix to twist your hair sounds amazing. Must try it out, but… only if someone else mixes it up for me :)

Ah well, Beauty Pies, I want to hear from you…

Do you have an extensive weekly haircare routine? Also, do you ever mix your own hair products?

So, I’ve finally gotten on the Moroccanoil bandwagon!

Yes, it took me forever and a day to try this line out, but I have and I like.

Moroccanoil is credited with starting the argan oil trend in haircare. Argan Oil is a known for its strengthening, antioxidant and shine-enhancing properties. Yum!

The gem of this collection was the Intense Curl Cream ($32), a leave-in styling product that left my hair feeling very soft and hydrated. Lately my hair has been in a flat-twisted updo of sorts (see vacation pic) and I’ve used this at night to keep my edges smooth as I catch my beauty sleep…
