Earlier this month, Carol’s Daughter invited the Beauty 365 team to learn more about Transitioning Movement.

We learned that more and more women are transitioning from relaxers to natural hair. The relaxed hair market has been rapidly declining. We were informed that is has decreased from over $100 million to $35 million in sales.

Despite the declining market, there is no packaged kit or localized resources addressing the issues involved with transitioning to natural hair. . .

Lisa Price, founder of Carol’s Daughter, speaks to the group about Transitioning Movement and the new 3 step kit.

Carol’s Daughter’s Transitioning Kit is a 3-step regimen designed specifically for those of us who are growing out their relaxers. The kit addresses 3 problems that are specific for transitioning hair needs:

Product Build-up: The 2 textures may be frustrating to care for so some women overuse products which build up on the hair and scalp.

Scarred Scalp: Repeated relaxers can scar the scalp (especially if the relaxer is too strong or applied incorrectly). These scars can damage hair follicles and the scalp, leading to weaker hair strands.

Demarcation Breakage: The demarcation point, where the natural and relaxed parts of the hair meet, is the weakest part of the hair. Since it is weak, it can lead to breakage if not properly strengthened.

The Carol’s Daughter 3-step Transitioning Kit will be available for purchase beginning June 2012.

Along with the kit, Carol’s Daughter founded TransitioningMovement.com. The site is dedicated to providing the resources, support and education that women need to embrace their natural hair. This site aims to be the singular resource for natural hair transitioning.

Hello B365 readers!

Recently, Stephanee and I were lucky enough to represent Beauty 365 at the launch of Carol’s Daughter’s new Chocolät Smoothing Collection…

The collection is designed to physically rebuild hair structure by softening and smoothing each strand. The collection consists of three steps: Chocolät Smoothing Shampoo, Conditioner, and Blow Dry Cream. The products contain Keravis, which is a plant-protein that physically rebuilds hair by filling in lifted cuticles.

I just want to let you know that I HATE blow-drying my hair at home. My arms get so tired and my hair does not get the texture that I like… That’s why I decided to go to the neighborhood Dominican salon to try out this product. Since they are known for their blowouts, I thought it would be a good test.

Before I went to the salon, I did a pre-treatment with Dabur Amla Hair Oil. I usually use the oil as a pre-treatment before I do anything harsh to my hair (relaxing, blow-drying, etc.). The oil has a very strong odor that some may not like.

The Chocolät collection has a very nice smell. It reminded me of a bakery or when I bake cake at home. The stylist even commented that it was nice. The smell stayed in my hair even after styling.

The stylist was a bit heavy-handed with the shampoo and conditioner. Since it is a sulfate-free shampoo, it doesn’t foam as much. She may have needed to use more to get the desired amount of foam. The conditioner was okay. It did not have as much slip as I am accustomed too. I also noticed the stylist had some struggles combing it through my hair. She added a little bit of their standard conditioner to help with combing.

After my shampoo and condition, we used the blow-out cream before she roller set my hair. Then once the roller set was dry, she proceeded to blow-dry my hair. She added a few products from her kit to aid with blow-drying.

The result was fine. I did not notice any drastic difference in smoothness from my usual blow-outs from the salon. The scent of the product is still noticeable. The following day, I went for a run and I tend to sweat a bit. My hair was still straight, except at the roots. However, the roots felt very soft.

The product is still quite fragrant days after use and I’m finding it hard to resist the urge to bake a cake!

Have you tried the Chocolät Smoothing Collection? If so, what do you think?
