Remember those long panoramic shots of the desert in The English Patient?

The rolling smoothness of the dunes is dimpled by snakelike ripples that have been carved into the sand by the wind. Well, that’s what my thighs have looked like since I had a baby last year.

About three weeks ago I started using the Body Firming Serum ($34) from Belli Motherhood Products, and I have to say that my desert-dimples have, I think, smoothed out a bit…

I couldn’t follow the exact directions on the label, which told me to apply the serum once or twice a day: first up my legs and torso, and then up my arms to my neck. I tried that for a few days, but I found it too time-consuming. There was a toddler running around, after all! (note: that’s how I got the dimples and saggy spots in the first place.) I decided that if I didn’t find a way to cheat, I would never continue using the product, so I started to apply it only to my thighs, tummy, butt, and the under sides of my breasts once a day (most days). I can’t say I’ve seen a big change in my body overall, but I really believe the dunes may be sanding themselves down.

Honestly, I’m not sure I’ll continue using the serum after I place the final period on this review. Of course I’m happy to see some improvement in my skin tone, but it’s so subtle I’m not entirely sure whether I’m noticing the effects of the product or my own wishful thinking. And that toddler is running faster every day. Heck, it’s been almost 48 hours since the last time I washed my hair. I might shelve the serum, make peace with my rippled thighs, and simply be grateful that I still brush my teeth twice every day. But that’s just me.
