Well, dear readers, the groundhog saw his shadow last month, bit Mayor Bloomberg (lol!) and we in NYC recently had a huge snowstorm. Needless to say, it’s been quite cold and dry and our skin has been paying the price.
However, we’ve got a few tidbits to share with you colder climate Beauties to help keep your skin soft, smooth and hydrated.
Moisturize – This sounds like a no brainer, but your skin needs moisture! Lots of it! And a good lotion will really go a long way towards keeping you feeling soft and supple. Many Beauties opt to switch to a heavier moisturizer during the winter months, including us! We’re really loving how Ambi’s Soft & Even Creamy Oil Lotion ($9) keeps the ashy skin monster at bay for us all day.
Humidify – It is easy to forget just how drying central heating is to our skin. Something we’ve found quite helpful is to put our trusty humidifiers to good use. Humidifiers essentially cause (you guessed it) humidity to occur by way of releasing warm or cool steam into the air. Having a humidifier can really help combat the drying effects of central heating and help your skin stay much better moisturized. You can grab a really affordable humidifier at your local drugstore. We’ve had our Vick’s Warm Steam Humidifier ($22) on full blast as soon the first frost hit.
Hydrate – Along the same vein as humidifying, we mustn’t neglect our water intake during these chilly winter months! What we put inside our bodies is bound to reflect on the outside and a few hearty glasses of water will do your skin a world of good. Now, it’s debatable whether or not we need a full 8 glasses each day to achieve optimal hydration, but, no matter the number, it’s free and available at a faucet near you, so you’ve got no excuse!
If your skin is still pretty dry, a dermatologist can always provide some useful insight.
