Video: The Ins & Outs of Product Diversion
Ok, so, before last week I had no idea what diversion was (in relation to the beauty industry, of course). But after attending a presentation hosted by the L’Oreal Professional Products Division, now I do and you will too!
Diversion is essentially the sale of salon-exclusive products via unauthorized outlets and retail websites. Surprisingly, diverted products (in, say, a drugstore) are generally more expensive than if they were purchased directly from salons. Who knew?!
Also, there could be counterfeit, contaminated or extremely old products in the diversion marketplace, usually with the batch code identifiers scratched off so they can’t be traced. Yikes!
So… do yourselves a favor and buy your authorized salon-exclusive products only in salons or from authorized websites! And don’t forget that there are lots of super drugstore and mass market brands available for purchase as well
Anyhoo, check out the video clip below for all the deets on product diversion and do let me know what you think!
