I confess, I really didn’t like this stuff when I first bought it.
It was one of the products that kept being mentioned on the hair care forums that I would visit, so I decided to take the plunge. I used Curling Custard to twist my hair and was really disappointed…
My two-strand twists were limp and got fuzzy really quickly – yikes!
Curling Custard is kind of like ramped up aloe vera gel. It’s just slightly thicker and has a nice fruity smell.
It wasn’t until a (long) while later that I read a forum entry on hair moisturizing techniques. If I could find the darn thing, I would link to it, but the post basically stated that hair needed to be moisturized in layers.
First apply a water-based gel such as aloe vera or Curling Custard, and then seal that moisture in with a heavier cream or oil.
Once I read that, painstakingly took small sections of hair, applied Curling Custard and then this petrolatum and mineral oil-free hairdress. I then made 4 or 5 big braids in my hair and put on my trusty silk scarf to lock in the moisture overnight.
I did this for a week (which is a big deal, because I have very little patience with hair) and my hair was SO SOFT and fluffy! I was amazed!
But, be sure to not apply too much, or else you’ll be left with unsightly flakes, as I learned the hard way…
So, the moral of the story is that Curling Custard is a great moisturizer if you have the patience to apply it section by section (which I usually don’t!)
Any other Curling Custard success stories?
