Short, dark fingernails have been all the rage lately. No longer goth and scary, this look is edgy, trendy and fun. In fact, Chanel’s Limited Edition Le Vernis Nail Colour in Black Satin (No. 219) has been sold out all over the place.
Originally retailing for an already pricey $18 a bottle, they have been going for upwards of $50 to $100 on Ebay.com. Ohh, the price of beauty!
It definitely made no sense for me to buy the Chanel version, even though you know I wanted it…
Soooo, on a routine trip to my local Rite Aid drugstore, I happened upon the Black Radiance brand of nail polish. I snapped up a bottle in the Black Licorice color, which is a deep and inky black shade with no undertones and hoped for the best.
I’m happy to report that this was a worthwhile purchase!
This is such a trendy look that it didn’t make much sense for me to go luxe. Black Radiance Nail Color is nice, cheap alternative at 2 dollars for a bottle.
I’ve used my bottle of Black Licorice with and without a top/base coat. On its own, two coats of this polish start chipping in about 2 days, which stinks, but who wears polish without a base or top coat anyway?
However, with a proper base and top coat of my scrumptious OPI Nail Envy this polish looked like a million bucks and lasted the better part of a week.
Who knew a cheap polish could look so good?
