Glass Curling Crème by BBD

Hello Beauties!

I have a confession to make…

I’m obsessed with hair products. There, I said it!

The fact that I even went through what it took to get a hold of BBD’s Glass Curling Crème should put me in the Product Junkie Hall of Fame.

Well, once upon a time, I read a reeeeeaallly good review of this product on a natural hair care message board and decided that I had to have it. The writer raved about how her naturally kinky/curly hair responded so well to this crème and how it was sooooo worth the $19 price tag. Her hair was transformed into beautiful little ringlets after just one application…

I think the fact that it is so darn hard to find made BBD Glass even more appealing. It wasn’t until a couple years after reading the review that I was able to locate a place to order it on the Internet.

After all that fuss, I didn’t even like the stuff!

An eccentric (to say the least) hair stylist that goes by the name Big Bad D and has a salon in Ypsilanti, Michigan engineered this product. Yes, that’s him pictured off to the left…

I tried twisting my hair with this stuff a couple times and was so not impressed. The hold was too light and this product flakes like nobody’s business. I also tried just working it through my hair before bed if I was wearing my hair out (non-twisted). Each time I used BBD Glass, my hair ended up looking dull and limp when I finished.

The smell of BBD Glass is sweet in a semi-scary sort of way. Kind of smells like taffy or cotton candy to me. It’s jiggly like thin pudding and whitish in color.

Oddly enough, my scalp tingled a little bit when I would use this stuff and not in an effervescent and refreshing sort of way. In fact, now that I have a bit on the back of my hand to reexamine the texture and scent for this blog entry I feel a little tingle as well… BBD doesn’t list the ingredients on the tub or on the website, which is very suspect. However, we are told that Glass Curling Crème contains 22 amino acids and no alcohol by-products.

In the end, I say save your money and try another product.

Or…if you’re feeling super-adventurous, you can look into purchasing a few items from BBD’s clothing line…yep, I’m referring to what’s off to the right…

Wow I remember this guy from when I did hair, going to the hair shows and all that stuff I haven’t worked in a salon in over 10 years and he still looks exactly the same LOL.

What about Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding (sorry spelling) have you tried that? This product sounds like it’s similar I was hoping it was with a lower pricetag but I guess one day I’ll have to make the investment in Miss Jessie’s.

Wow, Donna, you’ve seen this man in the flesh???

    Umm…No comment, lol!

And, yes, I’ve used both the Curly Pudding and the Curly Buttercreme by Miss Jessie’s. I almost forgot about those two guys!

i’ll review them on the site, but both are leaps and bounds better than BBD Glass. Both quite light formulas, so it depends on what level of moisture you want…

    thanks for commenting!
