The hair and cosmetics aisle is my friend.
On just about every trip to the drugstore, I have a bad habit of never being able to walk out with only the items on my shopping list. Not surprisingly, my purchase of Smooth N’ Shine’s Leave-In Conditioning Lotion was yet another unplanned purchase…doh!
My never-ending search for a light hair lotion that refreshes and moisturizes without leaving a lot of residue led me to this product. I wear my naturally curly hair in two strand twists most of the time and a light lotion is all I really need to give them a little oomph between washings when they start looking flat.
Even after trying this product for a while, I still haven’t quiiiiite found what I was looking for.
What strikes me first about this stuff is the smell. I just can’t get over it. Grapefruit and aloe are two words that come to mind when I think of the scent. The Silk Fusion Treatment Conditioning Lotion smells “clean” at first but then it starts to smell strangely after a little while. Honestly, I hated smelling it on my hair as the day would go on.
A friend of mine actually thinks this stuff smells good, so be sure to take a sniff before you buy it— maybe this will work with your nose.
Onto the formula, all the products in the Silk Fusion Technology line are supposed to make hair shiny and silky and more elastic among other things. This conditioning lotion contains a bunch of proteins and amino acids, which didn’t do much of anything for me.
I think Smooth N’ Shine’s Leave-In Conditioning Lotion would work fairly well for relaxed or naturally straight hair. My very curly tresses are not chemically treated, so it kind of just sat on my hair while irritating my nose. It did, however, not leave any buildup, flakes or residue.
This product is more like a thin, slick gel in consistency than a creamy lotion. It’s also whitish in color, but applies clear to the hair.
Last but not least, this stuff is pretty cheap at 4 bucks for 10 fl. oz.
If anyone has used (or smelled) this product before, I’d love to know what your opinion is!
Leave me a comment!
