Last summer I discovered a neat use for flat/matte eye shadow. It’s a great alternative to pencil eyeliner and has fast become a part of my daily routine.
I’m not the biggest fan of most eye standard eye pencils. Often the color doesn’t glide on smoothly and I end up tugging wildly… at my eye area to correctly apply it. The line on my upper lid ends up being so harsh that properly blending it in really stresses my tender eye area.
The shadow that I use is plain and black by Lorac, but any flat, powder shadow will do. Lorac’s version contains virtually no shimmer and is very blendable. At $16 a pop, this shadow is pricey, but… I love it and that alone can usually justify my purchases
Each morning, I apply this product with one of my precision eye shadow brushes right above my lash line (you can use a cotton swab if you don’t own one.) It takes no time at all once you get your technique down. I all I need to do is close my eye and brush it on. No tugging. No pulling. No sad wrinkly eyes in 10 years (I hope!)
A bit of liner on the upper lash line is universally flattering and the results can be as precise or smoky as you care to blend. So, have fun with it!
P.S. – You can also use a flat eye shadow to gently fill in any sparse areas in your eyebrows. The results will look really natural and no one will be able to tell!
