I remember when each batch of Healthy Hair Butter by Carol’s Daughter was made by hand and packaged in glass jars…
Presently, this hair crème is mass produced and now lives in plastic jars with funny flowers on their lids. The formula of this product has remained essentially unchanged and its mass production has resulted in less consistency variation from one jar to the next.
I haven’t chemically straightened my hair in over 5 years and Healthy Hair Butter was one of the first products I used on my newly curly hair. I’ve stuck to this hairdress all these years because it leaves my impossibly dry hair supple and moisturized– not at all greasy. The shea and cocoa butters contained within work wonders.
Healthy Hair Butter is off white in color and sort of has the consistency of partly dried cake frosting. It quickly and easily emulsifies once you work it in between your palms.
One of the first things you’ll notice about this product is the smell. It’s very strong to say the least and the only thing about this product that I can find fault with. In fact, I have to be sure not to use too much on my hair, or else the smell will just be too overpowering.
The most prominent scent my nose can detect is the patchouli oil. Cedar and orange oils also strongly influence this cream. “Spicy” and “musky” are two words that come to mind when I sniff this stuff.
So…check this creme out — especially those with really dry, curly hair & let me know what ya think!

i LOVE this product! My hair is really curly and bushy, and this is the only thing that keeps it moisturized, tame and shiny! Whenever I use it, i get so many compliments on the luster of my hair. Getting it was sometimes a hassle, but now that the products are at Sephora, its a lot easier. people with dry hair NEED to try this product. when i stopped using it for a few months, my hair was dry, frizzier and a lot less shiny. i started using it again, and we’re back to normal!
@illy – Yay. So glad it works for you!
I need to try this stuff ASAP!!
