My path to Urban Decay’s Deluxe Shadow started with my very first makeover, but before I get into that…
Three cheers for eyeshadow! I love, love, LOVE it! My eyes are my absolute favorite feature to dress up with makeup and I’ve honestly lost count of all the different shadows, mascaras and eyeliners that are part of my collection. I’m also really into eyebrows and eyelashes, but that is another entry altogether… I just find the eye area so very interesting…
Anyway, back to the product at hand!
On yet another Sephora trip a couple months back, I purchased a wonderful gold shadow by Urban Decay (along with about $65 worth of other merchandise…) The cashier took note and invited me to an Urban Decay in-store makeover event being held the following week. When that fateful day arrived, I took a risk and asked my makeup artist to try out some blues on me, a color family I hadn’t much experimented with on my eyes. She blended Adore (pictured) over a base of Baked, which is the gold I had bought the week before. I loved how it turned out so much that I just had to buy my own Adore, so that I could try the look on my own. Ok…so, I didn’t have to buy it, I was excited and just really wanted it.
The first thing I noticed about this shadow is the creative artwork on the top of the case. I get really excited about containers and packaging, so this definitely sparked my interest. The Deluxe Shadow line consists of eight colors, each with a *really* cool original work of art on its case. This shadow by far has the fanciest packaging in my collection. The container is hinged, weighted and includes a nice sized glass mirror, so it can double as a miniature compact, if need be.
No rough or chalky formulas here! The shadow itself is made with a very silky, soft and finely ground powder, so it applies really smoothly and layers really well.
This particular shade has very little shimmer and is somewhere between cobalt and royal blues. Adore’s pigment is very rich and full. There’s also a slight iridescence to it which really makes this shadow look great when it’s blended well.
I really like Adore because its vibrant color contrasts well with my skin, which is a shade of chocolate brown. The smooth formula makes it a joy to apply as well.
All the shades in this collection are worth trying, depending on your color preference. At $17 a pop, these shadows aren’t as affordable as the drugstore brands, but they work really well and a little really goes a long way.
Helpful Hint – Try figuring out which shades look good on you by experimenting with more affordable drugstore brands. When you get a better idea of what colors look best, invest in a higher quality version of your favorite shade(s). I’ve found that there is a marked difference in quality between drugstore brands and brands sold in department and specialty stores, like (you guessed it) Sephora
